Description
Indranil Chakrabarti completed his PhD on local governance in Calcutta at the Development Studies Institute (DESTIN), London School of Economics, in 2001. Since then, he has joined the Financial Services Authority (FSA) in London, and is currently working for the Department for International Development (DFID) in Dhaka, Bangladesh, as a social development adviser. He continues to nurture an interest in social movements and civil society as important elements of an effective and well-functioning state that serves the interests of poor people.
Geert De Neve is Senior Lecturer in Social Anthropology at the University of Sussex, UK. He has a specific interest in the study of labour and industrialisation in India, as well as a more general interest in processes of migration, modernity and social transformation. He is the author of The
