A holistic approach considers the bigger picture. Observing the right of consumers to health-relevant information can happen today. Observing the right of the world to be tobacco free is for the future, if it ever happens. I prefer also to advocate for a human right for a tobacco-smoke-free world rather than for a tobacco-free world, 1 because the supporting evidence arises most conclusively from the effects of cigarette smoke. In dealing with the “tobacco” epidemic, it would be good public health practice to prioritize attention to the most common and most deadly products (cigarettes), especially when other tobacco products are less common or less important causes of early death and disability and when the harms from some of these other tobacco or nicotine products can be quite low.
