Methods

A writing group was established with representation from the Council on Peripheral Vascular Disease and Council on Cardiopulmonary, Critical Care, Perioperative and Resuscitation of the American Heart Association and vetted by American Heart Association leadership. All writing group members were required to disclose all relationships with industry and other entities relevant to the subject. The writing group was subdivided into the 3 areas of statement focus, and each subgroup was led by a member with content expertise (deep venous thrombosis [SV], pulmonary embolism [SZG], and chronic thromboembolic pulmonary hypertension [PAT]). The writing groups systematically reviewed and summarized the relevant published literature and incorporated this information into a manuscript with draft recommendations.
