Description
Objectives
This study was conducted to find out correlation in severity between coronary artery diseases and periodontal disease utilizing angiographic data (coronary angiograms) and measuring periodontal status clinically.
Methods
A cross sectional study was conducted in the Department of Cardiology, SMS hospital between 2015 to 2017. A total of 700 patients with CAD (confirmed by coronary angiogram), who met the inclusion criteria were selected as cases. Severity of coronary artery disease was assessed by calculating Gensini scores from the coronary angiograms. Periodontal disease data was collected by using Community Periodontal Index & Loss of Attachment index (CPI & LOA). Pearson correlation coefficient was used to assess the correlation between coronary artery disease and periodontal disease.
