Description
The current work focuses on the development of micro-textures on the large surface area through the electrical discharge micromachining (EDMM) process on Ti-6Al-4 V and brass. Different types of textures consisting of arrays of micro-dimples with varying dimple’s depth and pitch, while zigzag micro-channels and square micro-pillars were fabricated by the EDMM process. The wettability study elicited an appreciable increase in the water contact angle (CA) for the textures, i.e., ~98° for dimples with a depth of 25 µm with respect to the untextured surface, i.e., ~38°. Further, the value of water CA almost tripled (~110°) with respect to nascent samples on increasing the depth of the dimple to 100 µm. The study pertaining to the effect of pitch on wettability revealed ~24 and ~15% increase in the water CA with respect to the untextured surface for the pitch of ~700 µm and ~800 µm, respectively at dimples depth of ~50 µm …
