Description
This paper suggests that contemporary urban theory is insensitive to the diversity and distinctiveness of the impact of globalization on European cities. Through a discussion of three themes – the revival of the city-state, the posited emergence of a homogenised city, and the “ethnoscape” – I argue that more empirical and theoretical work is necessary to account for the specificity of European urban restructuring under globalization.
