Description
Background
People with Type 2 Diabetes (T2D) and obesity have ectopic fat deposition and are at increased risk of heart failure with preserved Ejection Fraction (HFpEF). HFpEF is typified by impaired diastolic function. There is limited evidence on the relationship between visceral adipose tissue (VAT) and diastolic or systolic function in adults with T2D. The aim of this work was to determine if: 1) there is an independent relationship between VAT and diastolic or systolic function in a multi-ethnic cohort of obese people with T2D and 2) if a reduction in VAT following lifestyle or pharmacotherapy is associated with improved diastolic or systolic function.
Methods
