Description
This article contributes to methodological discussions of monitoring interviewer-administered surveys during fieldwork on wife abuse in India. Researchers collecting primary data often have to navigate unfamiliar social and cultural norms of conduct, travel to remote locations and have to obtain fluency in multiple languages to begin the process of conducting interviews. Further, conducting interviews may pose additional complications as cultural gendered norms often dictate daily life, such that conversations on domestic violence are a taboo. This article examines the entire context of the data collection, including selection and training of interviewers, the locations and the participants for the study, with the purpose of presenting the approach researchers took to obtain data at a complicated location.
