Description
Modern political science has devoted more energy to the study of elections than to any other subject. The very earliest applications of multivariate statistics, by pioneers such as Harold Gosnell in the 1920s, investigated electoral behavior. The American National Election Studies, which date to 1952, are the longest continuous nongovernmental data collection enterprise in all the social sciences.
