Description
A 'modernist' Muslim organisation, Muhammadiyah faces the challenge to use modern Islamic legal reasoning as an instrument for the regulation and reconstruction of Indonesian society - attempts by the Muhammadiyah to apply the revelation sent down 15 centuries ago to the problems of a modern state - looking at its method of handing down fatawa - a new method of analysing the Quran and the Hadis is needed, one that uses a contextual approach to legal language and interpretation.
