Description
The OPAL detector at thc c* c storage ring I. EP is designed to providc prccisc mcasu remonts of charged particles and of clcctromagnetic cncrgy over ncarly the full solid angle. Its main olcrnents are a central tracking system, a solenoidal coil, an cloctromagnctic: calorimoter made of lead glass, a hadron calorinoler madle of iron and wire chambors, and a muon «lotcctor. A pair of forward detectors is usod to mcasıro the luminosity and to identify particles cnitted at small angles with respect to thc leam line. In this pa por all do toctor clcments arc describcd and th cir performance is discussed.
