Satellite solar-induced chlorophyll fluorescence (SIF) can provide valuable insights on terrestrial gross primary production (GPP) and its response to climate from region to global scales. However, the relationship between SIF and GPP under different climate conditions (such as drought) is not yet fully understood and remains a topic of debate in the literature. Here we examined the responses of the SIF–GPP relationship (i.e., the slope k of the linear SIF–GPP relationship, GPP = k × SIF) to drought along the aridity gradient using seven satellite SIF datasets, three GPP products, and 62 flux towers. The results revealed divergent SIF–GPP relationships under different aridity and drought conditions based on different SIF and GPP datasets.
