Description
The niethod of inserting transparent chambers or ‘wiiidows’ into rabbits’ ears was devised in order to carry out longcontinued microscopic studies of the structural characteristics, mode of growth, and reactions of cells and tissues in living mammals similar to studies made by one of the authors on the transparent tail fins of living amphibian larvae (ER Clark,’09,’12,’18). The first transparent chambers adapted for such studies were inserted by Sandison (’% a), working iii this department, and described by him. Since then a number of workers in this laboratory have collaborated on the perfection of the method, in order to obtain uniformly satisfactory chambers, adapted for various kinds of cytological, physiological, and experimental studies, which would remain permanently in the ear, and in which an observation space of known thickness could be retained.
