Stimulated by disscussions on quality assurance and in the tradition of psychotherapy research, efforts to evaluate in the area of child guidance can increasingly be noticed. At the same time, there is a lack of standardized and evaluated counselling-specific measures. With the questionnaire on child guidance and family counselling (FEF), a method was developed for retrospectively raising the consumer evaluations. It contains scales for access to counselling, counselling process, counselling-satisfaction and effects of counselling. Using two client samples, it was constructed and revised (Sample 1, 50 families) and subjected to psychometric testing (Sample 2, 108 families). The internal consistencies of the FEF-scales were highly satisfactory (alpha=.95 to .82). Indications of construct validity result from the connections between FEF-scales and frequency of appointments or the counselling setting. These results indicate that the FEF is a reliabile and valid instrument of evaluation for scientific questions and self evaluation in practical counselling work.
