Methods
Pts referred for unexplained abd pain, including referrals for SOD, were evaluated for ACNES. All pts referred for therapy (rx) of ACNES had prior abdominal imaging, lab workup & appropriate history & PE, with point tenderness at the neuromuscular foramen & Carnett sign. History of CCY & prior SOM were recorded. All pts diagnosed with ACNES were referred to a single physician for injection with local anesthetic (1cc 0.25% Marcaine,# 22 needle).% response after injection,(phone call 1wk) was recorded.
Results
A total of 78 pts were referred for treatment of ACNES & completed the above noted protocol. Ages ranged from 18-72 (average±SD, 42.8±14.2). 48 pts had CCY, 30 pts did not. 20 pts had SOM, 58 did not. Of the pts with history of SOM, 10 (50%) had complete response, 3 (15%) partial response & 7 (35%) no response. Of the 58 pts w/o history of SOM, 23 (40%) had complete response, 17 (29 …
