Description
Population growth rates in the least industrialized countries are the highest and will add pressure to transport systems in the future, making travel unimaginably more difficult, especially in locations where road infrastructure is already inadequate or dilapidated. It is, therefore, imperative to plan and deploy intelligent solutions that can intuitively adapt to future traffic demands and inclusively improve transport efficiency and safety. By considering modernization theory and technology transfer, the authors weigh transport system users’ perspectives on the desirability of deployable intelligent transport systems (ITSs) in an African metropolis. The study shows that users recognize the benefits of technology in improving transport performance and travel experience in the metropolis with regard to the precursory ITS solutions already in existence.
