Description
A rare case of anaphylactic reaction to the bite of Triatoma rubrofasciata (Deg.) is described from Singapore. The patient, a 19-year-old male, was successfully resuscitated with injections of adrenaline, hydrocortisone and promethazine. An allergic response to an antigen in the saliva of the bug is postulated. Sensitisation from previous bites of a mild nature cannot be excluded completely although there was said to be no past history of bites.
