Working with domestic abuse clients can be complex due to the many different mental health difficulties that can be presented. The relational dynamics within therapy can also be challenging at times. This chapter takes you through a model of practice one step at a time, sharing some of the issues that may arise and signposting towards resources that may help to resolve such issues. As well as showing the stages of counselling work, it also shares some of the reasons why therapy develops as it does and what can be done to facilitate as smooth a journey for the client and therapist as is possible. The chapter will also explore the challenges the client faces and the possible response of the counsellor and/or counselling organisation.
