The report of a meeting of an IUBS (International Union of Biological Sciences) working group on Decade of the Tropics programme/Tropical Savanna Ecosystems, held on 9-13 Dec. 1985 at Harare, Zimbabwe. There are 4 sections: Introduction and objectives; The determinants of savannas (including discussions of soil moisture and soil nutrient dynamics, fire and herbivory, interactions within the ecosystem and human influences); Hypotheses about the responses of savannas to stress and distrubance; and Proposed programme. An appendix includes addresses of working group participants.
