Description
This paper presents introductory details of an application of Java for the interactive learning of power system stability on the world wide web. Java is a programming language that has emerged as a powerful tool for the development of platform and browser independent, interactive and computational based software which can be used on the world wide web (www) through a Java-enabled Web browser. The paper outlines in brief, the Java programming language, and its characteristics for developing interactive instructional applications on the Web. The interactive and computational capabilities of Java are demonstrated through a simple Java applet for transient stability. The applet features a graphical user-friendly interface and can be used by students to comprehend the Equal Area Criterion method of power system transient stability.
