Description
This chapter describes a motivation‐facilitation model to understanding the psychology of adult male sexual offending. Motivations are factors that create the desire or intent to sexually offend, while facilitators are factors that increase the likelihood that a sexual offense will occur, given the presence of a motivator as well. We discuss relevant literature on motivational and facilitatory factors for sexual offending in men, as well as briefly summarizing current risk assessment and intervention strategies in light of this theoretical and empirical framework.
