Description
This paper explores the silver industry in Yogyakarta during the Indonesian decade of crises. Based on two years of qualitative research among local entrepreneurs, an in-depth perspective is offered on the practices and strategies of SMEs coping with crisis. This paper makes two contributions to the literature on SMEs. The first is empirical by offering detailed and longitudinal primary data on small firm performance in times of crisis. These data inform our understanding of crisis management at the small firm level and provide important insights into business resilience. The second contribution is conceptual by proposing a contextualized understanding of crisis management. Therefore, the paper contributes to the advancement and refinement of embeddedness as a meta-theoretical approach in small business research.
