Description
The COVID-19 pandemic has introduced dramatic changes to our lives, and in higher education. In March 2020, educators across Canada undertook the challenge of suddenly shifting traditional courses to online delivery, or “emergency remote teaching”(Hodges et al. 2020). With the pandemic still underway, most Canadian universities will offer undergraduate courses completely or mostly online in the Fall 2020 term, with a few hybrid and strategically planned in-person models at some schools (Steele 2020). Microbiologists understand the need for reducing prolonged indoor gathering to protect students, faculty, and staff from SARS-CoV-2 infection. While there are challenges with online teaching and learning, particularly in large enrolment courses, remote instruction also offers opportunities to innovate and enhance our curricula (Davis et al. 2020).
