Description
This study, using models of qualitative choice, finds that U.S. senators cast their votes on a proposed constitutional amendment on abortion as predicted according to their ideological position on this issue. More importantly, however, the empirical findings reveal that a senator's religious affiliation exhibits a significant effect in determining how a senator voted, suggesting that senators were significantly influenced by their own beliefs on abortion as well as their constituents' interests.
