Description
Vigorously applying the concept of human rights to services provides a framework for addressing abuses in service settings and holds all relevant stakeholders (eg, governments, policymakers, and service providers) accountable for protecting them. A human rights perspective on services zooms out from the individual consumer–provider relationship to examining systemic issues and stakeholder responsibilities. This expanded approach to human rights is in line with current service ecosystem approaches (Edvardsson and Tronvoll, 2023; Fisk and Alkire, 2021; Tsiotsou, 2016; Vargo and Lusch, 2016).
Service research has expanded its perspective from investigating dyadic and triadic interactions to studying service ecosystems and their institutional arrangements and mechanisms in service exchanges at various levels of analysis (micro, meso, and macro).
