Description
The focus of this article is the network-level transition process that takes place when businesses and industries move towards an increased service provision. As previous studies have demonstrated, different network actors can play a key role in successful service transition, which is why a deeper understanding of servitization at the network level is required. The purpose of this paper is to synthesize and structure research in the intersection of servitization and business networks, and to create a research agenda and future directions for studies on the network nature of servitization. Based on the conducted literature review, we suggest that future research is needed in the following three areas:(1) actors and relations:(2) resources and capabilities:(3) development and business models. For each of these areas we created a number of takeaways signaling future avenues for the research field. Each takeaway is based on the carried out literature review and the challenges pinpointed in the analyzed articles. Relying on this understanding, we propose eight takeaways as a development of the research on network nature of servitization. The present paper contributes to research (1) by synthesizing the articles in the intersection of networks and servitization connected to the field of service research,(2) by categorizing and theorizing about common denominators within this new marketing research field, and (3) by proposing eight specific takeaways regarding what research is needed within network nature of servitization.
