Description
The rheological properties and thermal sensitivity of asphalt binder directly affect the mechanical properties of hot mix asphalt (HMA) at different temperatures. Conducted researches have proved that nano materials can improve HMA’s properties as modifier, if well mixed in the asphalt binder. In this study some tests are done to compare functional properties of neat and carbon nanotubes (CNTs)-modified asphalt mixtures. As the first step, the morphology of the CNT-modified asphalt binder was examined in nano scale by scanning electron microscopy (SEM). As the second step, the HMA’s mechanical properties including resilient modulus, creep behavior and fatigue performances were evaluated. The results of this study show a noticeable improvement in HMA’s mechanical properties containing CNTs, against fatigue phenomena and permanent deformation in comparison with conventional HMA.
