Description
Summaries and critiques of eight rating procedures used in the assessment of family functioning are presented. Each rating scale is described in terms of its theoretical origins and key constructs and is then evaluated in terms of its psychometric properties. A comparative analysis of the strengths and limitations of existing rating procedures is presented. Issues in the use of family assessment rating methods are discussed, and recommendations for further development of rating scales in family psychology are provided.
