This paper was written is in response to the request by the International Labour Office to examine the link between macroeconomic policies, on the one hand, and growth and employment outcomes, on the other hand, of a large sample of developing and emerging economies. It is part of the overall project on ‘Growth and Productive Employment in Development Countries–Outcomes and Policies’.
