Description
Dementia is commonly present in emerging countries like Mexico (WHO, 2019). However, the conditions of these nations do not allow them to perform mediations as the developed realms perform. Moreover, due to the monetary and human means, the creation of specialised places like the Dementia Villages (2020) are not yet viable to introduce in low- and middle-income countries. Dementia Villages are “reminiscent residences” for people with dementia. These places replicate a small town with staff characterised as a postman, a hairstylist and “normal” people. However, all of them are nurses and physicians. Design for people with dementia in Mexico is not a priority because of the shortage of supplies. Few geriatric residences employ dementia design principles. The ones that do are for individuals who can afford it.
