Dear Sir, We read with interest the comments made by Drs. Badlou and Rezaee1 on our Letter to the Editor entitled" Platelet proteomics in Transfusion Medicine: a reality with a challenging but promising future" 2 which was published recently in a special issue edited by Prof. Zolla and Dr. Grazzini.
Firstly, we would like to clarify that we never concluded that proteomics is the first choice of technology for gaining knowledge to increase the storage time of platelets. Actually, we pointed out the challenges platelet proteomics face before we will have standardised methods that can be routinely used in clinical practice in the field of Transfusion Medicine. Of course, that does not mean that other"-omics" technologies cannot be of relevance for the same purpose in the near future, especially metabolomics.
