Description
PURPOSE: The purpose of this study was to determine if there were differences in the impact of expending 450 calories at 65% VO2max on a treadmill through one exercise session (continuous; CE) or intermittent exercise sessions (two (IE2) or three (IE3) exercise sessions in one day) on the blood lipid profiles and transport enzymes in men.
METHODS: Sixteen healthy (22±2.1 yrs., mean±SD) men (VO2 max= 37.0±3.3 mL-kg-min-1) randomly completed three exercise trials, CE, IE2 and IE3, to expend 450 calories. Baseline data were collected in the evening which included anthropometric measurements, seven day diet records and venous blood samples. The CE trial was done during one continuous time period and the intermittent trials were separated by 4–5 hrs each all over the course of one day between the hours of 7 am and 9 pm.
