Description
This article presents a detailed bird checklist of Jaú National Park (JNP) located at west bank of the lower Rio Negro, a region poorly known ornithologically. In the field work conducted during the last seven years, we recorded 445 bird species, with eight additional hypothetical records for the park, representing more than 50% of the known Central Amazonian avifauna. A comparison of the JNP and Biological Dynamics of Forest Fragments Project (BDFFP) reserves (eastern bank of the Rio Negro) show a high similarity in number of species of terra firme forest among the two study sites, with 257 species recorded from BDFFP reserves and 245 species from JNP.
