Description
The purpose of this project was to compare how bone densitometers made by different manufacturers measure bone density and body composition. A second goal was to assess how both dual energy x-ray absorptiometer (DXA) systems detect artificial changes in soft tissue composition by placing single and double layers of lard packets over the abdominal area. Measurements of total body bone mineral density (TBD), bone mineral density (BMD) of lumbar 1-4, and percent body fat were compared between two DXA systems manufactured by Lunar Radiation Corp.,(Lunar DPX-L, software version 1.3 y, Madison, WI) and Hologic (Hologic QDR-2000, software version 7.1 C, Waltham, MA) on a group of 20 women ranging in age from 25-62 years.
