Description
For four years now, we have toured and researched throughout Atlanta to select the best places to take a walk around our town. The two volumes of Atlanta's Urban Trails, which we've dubbed “City Tours" and" Country Tours," are the result of our explorations. In volume 1, we included walking tours of downtown, intown, and near town areas. In volume 2, we travel a bit farther afield, to explore close-in suburbs, neighboring communities beyond the perimeter, and parklands.
In these two volumes, we've included information on area history, architecture, and events. From the beginning, we've had a dual purpose: to create useful and enjoyable books about Atlanta that are interesting to residents and visitors, and to encourage people to walk for recreation and fitness. For this volume, we invited the Atlanta Track Club to contribute some basic guidelines for fitness walking. That information follows this preface. Many of the trails in this book are suitable for jogging and biking as well. These books are not intended to serve as comprehensive guides to the city. Rather, they are sightseeing guides, a sampling of the variety Atlanta has to offer. We hope they will serve as an impetus for readers to explore further on their own, and we welcome suggestions for new places to travel.(To contact us, see page 117.) We also offer an Atlanta's Urban Trails T-shirt. Ordering information is included on page 121.
