Tropical timber trade is an important role in the resource-based socio-economic development of Malaysia. Malaysia is one of the largest exporters of high quality tropical timber products to the world market. Recently, there has been increasing the importance of developing countries such as Malaysia both for exporters and importers of value added timber products. The review has two parts. First, we discuss the production, trade and prices of primary tropical timber products. Secondly, we analyze the trade and prices of secondary processed wood products. The aim of this paper is to highlight and clarify the improving transparency in the tropical timber market developments in Malaysia.
