Dual relationships are defined here as those where a client-therapist relationship extends, intentionally or unintentionally, to include encounters, activities or relationships outside the therapeutic one. This chapter considers ethical dilemmas associated with dual relationships, arising within possibly unique social and cultural contexts of sexual minority communities, for therapists and clients who are members of those communities. Definitions of'dilemma','dual relationships' and'boundary'provide a framework for the discussion. Theoretical perspectives are introduced and related to the management of ethical dilemmas, including boundary management and the use of problem solving models. Case studies are presented for discussion.
