As it becomes increasingly common for organizations to work in a process-oriented manner, single organizations may be dealing with collections of hundreds or thousands business process models. Examples of such collections, which are often mentioned in the literature, include: the BIT Process Library (735 process models)[1], the SAP Reference Model (604 process models)[2], a reference model for Dutch municipalities (around 600 process models)[3], IBM’s Insurance Application Architecture (around 250 process models)[4] and Suncorp’s process model repository for insurance (6000+ process models)[5]. As organizations develop such large collections of business process models, new challenges and opportunities arise.
