Description
Method (s)
The online survey was created around the key constructs of the Theory of Planned Behaviour (TPB). Hierarchical regression analysis were performed to determine influential factors which explained the variance in the intention to engage in these HPV preventative behaviours.
Results
Only 44% of the participants always used a condom, and 78% had never used a condom during oral sex. Positive attitudes toward receiving the HPV vaccine (M 6.13; SD 1.26) and using a condom (M 5.94; SD 1.29) was identified. Sexual orientation (β= 0.177, p< 0.01) and social influences [β= 0.519, p< 0.001] were key influential factors in relation to males’ intention to receive the HPV vaccine. While relationship status (β=-. 215, p< 0.001) and attitudes [β= 0.394, p< 0.001] were the most significant predictor of intention to use a condom correctly and consistently for sexual contact.
