Description
Transformation efforts in undergraduate education must be guided by data. Documenting change in an ongoing way can be instrumental in helping faculty members, departmental leaders, and institutional leaders: (1) to determine the extent to which their efforts are meeting intended goals, (2) to differentiate between successful and unsuccessful strategies, and (3) to understand the consequences of their efforts on student learning and success, department culture, and faculty engagement. In this chapter, tools are presented that helped the CUR Transformations project participants stay on track, document their success, and refine their approaches. Four categories of tools are described, including annual reflection tools, annual site visit tools, survey and focus group tools, and outcome measures tools, along with examples of how each was used by project participants.
