Global ageing is shifting the balance between older and young people but we argue throughout this Handbook that insufficient action has been taken to support older people. Existing inequalities persist and occur between generations and among different groups of older people. These occur in all domains of social life and they are experienced to varying extents by different social groups. Four persistent inequalities involve the intersections of ageing and gender, ageing and racial minorities, ageing and social class, and ageing and economic power. In practical terms, experiences of inequalities are not easily categorised. Plus, inequalities are experienced on an individual and personal level.
