Reports an error in" Free will and punishment: A mechanistic view of human nature reduces retribution" by Azim F. Shariff, Joshua D. Greene, Johan C. Karremans, Jamie B. Luguri, Cory J. Clark, Jonathan W. Schooler, Roy F. Baumeister and Kathleen D. Vohs (Psychological Science, 2014 [Aug], Vol 25 [8], 1563-1570). In the original article, there were errors in mediation figure and labeling of manipulation check in study 3. The corrections are given in the erratum.(The following abstract of the original article appeared in record 2014-32894-007). If free-will beliefs support attributions of moral responsibility, then reducing these beliefs should make people less retributive in their attitudes about punishment. Four studies tested this prediction using both measured and manipulated free-will beliefs.
