Description
Prefabricated bridge elements and systems (PBES) are used to accelerate on-site construction for reducing mobility impact time to several days or a couple of weeks. The PBES improves elements and system quality since the fabrication is not within the critical path. For rural bridge construction, handling, transportation, and erection constraints are the driving forces for requiring PBES. A collection of superstructure and substructure elements of various shapes is presented allowing the engineers an opportunity to classify them into size and weight ranges to select the most suitable ones for a given site. This process can be further enhanced by utilizing the concept of bridge bundling. Another challenge for rural bridge construction is the installation of foundations.
