In reaction to growing concerns about global warming and climate change, the European Union (EU) has made the political commitment to work towards a sustainable future (European Commission, 2021a). One of the pillars of this commitment is to stimulate a just energy transition (European Commission, 2021a, 2021c). A just energy transition aims for fairness in both ecological aspects (its impact in terms of climate change mitigation) and social aspects (its impact in terms of shifting social roles and relations), necessary for a sustainable future (Elzen and Wieczorek, 2005; Goddard and Farrelly, 2018; McCauley and Heffron, 2018; OECD, 2017; Sovacool et al., 2017; Williams and Doyon, 2019).
