Description
The article discusses how the creation of a confederation of Green parties in Australia called The Greens signals a new era for the green movement. The formation of The Greens marks the end of nearly two decades of emphasis on social movement activity and the beginning of an emphasis on political campaigns for ecologically sustainable development. These political campaigns will be mainly carried out by the political wing of the green movement called the Australian Greens. The author believes the shift towards political activities will be uncomfortable because Greens will be obligated to leave the high moral ground of social movement protest and enter the murkier waters of vying for political power.
