Description
The recent federal election and last year's Queensland elections have focused debate inside social change movements on the best way to achieve their aims. In the federal election, while most Green preferences were directed to Labor, and while the ACF advocated preferences to the ALP over the Coalition, the Wilderness Society was prepared to give credit for a much improved performance on the environment to the Coalition and was not prepared to endorse Labor. The refusal by the Greens in the Queensland State elections to. direct preferences in most seats to Labor, and even to direct them to the Coalition in a small number of seats, has been supported by some in social change movements and condemned by others. The Greens' decision was not an arbitrary one. We had been threatening to do this for two years and we had been assiduous in indicating to all major parties the sorts of policies we wanted to …
