Description
The harbor porpoise is one of the seven species within the family Phocoenidae. This small toothed whales is a coastal resident throughout much of the temperate (boreal) Northern Hemisphere, occupying range in both the Atlantic and Pacific Oceans. Harbor porpoises consume small fish both in the water column and benthically in relatively shallow areas. Some populations experience considerable bycatch in gill nets and other near-shore fisheries gear. Noise from marine wind-farms and other industry likely to have negative impacts on this species.
