Over the past decade, quality in conference interpreting has emerged as a major topic of research in Interpreting Studies. The most recent and significant contribution to this line of work is the Ph. D. thesis defended in 1997 by Ángela Collados Ais at the University of Granada and published in Spanish by Editorial Comares. The book is a pioneering achievement in several ways. Apart from one or two minor works on teaching, Ángela Collados’ is the first scholarly monograph on interpreting published in Spain. Yet the author does not take advantage of that privileged position by merely covering familiar territory in a new language of publication. Rather, her work is very well focused and truly innovative in its subject matter and, perhaps even more so, its methodology.
