Many types of natural habitats are found throughout the world. Every such habitat has unique characteristics that allow it to support specific plant and animal life. Some habitats contain animals not found elsewhere in the world while others are not able to support certain species that are considered commonplace most everywhere else. The same can be said of habitats for social enterprise in different countries if we think of macrolevel institutional factors as elements of the habitat (ie, water, soil, and weather) that give rise to the legal forms and financing mechanisms (plant life) that shape the kinds of social enterprises (animals) that emerge and their relationships (organizational ecology, adaptability, and resilience) with the environment.
