Description
Ferrofluids or colloidal magnetic fluids are strongly magnetizable yet retain fluid flowability in the most intense applied magnetic fields. Scientific and technological interest in these synthesized fluids ranges from study of spontaneous patterning to magnetic properties that are adjustable with applications to convective cooling, rotary shaft sealing, levitational sensors, separation of metals and plastics, to medical research including hyperthermia treatment. This review focuses on the physicochemical behavior of these fascinating materials.
